Exploring Auckland - Piha and Kitekite Falls

I’ve not been back out to Piha since Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023. So much of this region was devastated, including the Kitekite Falls track.

It was great getting back into nature in one of my favourite places on Earth.

The track has changed completely - and has been rebuilt expertly. However, it’s a lot harder nowadays. There’s only one way in and one way out to the Falls - and that involves 100’s of steps up - it really showed up my lack of fitness. Something to work on I guess.

The destination is still absolutely worth it. The scenery, magnificent.

Auckland CBD to Piha is approximately 50 minutes.

The walk to the Falls from the carpark is approximately 25 minutes.

Wheelchairs? No.

Prams? No.

Angsty children? Hell no.

I loved the trip - it’s been good to get back there.
