Exploring Auckland - Franklin Farm, Waimauku and Muriwai Gannet Colony

There is nothing better to do on a sunny Sunday in Summer (I’m in the Southern Hemisphere in case you were wondering) than get out and explore the region you live in.

I had heard of Franklin Farm - but had never been there. So today was the day. And it didn’t disappoint.

The owners have curated millions of sunflowers in broad fields. They also have a Monarch Butterfly breeding programme and today was a release day - hundreds of mature Monarchs were set free in to the wild. It was quite something to watch.

It’s a very family-friendly place, as evidenced by their Instagram channel.

Moving on from the Farm, a visit to the Muriwai Gannet Colony was a must. More information about the colony can be found here.
