Sydney! A birthday week in Sydney!
My birthday happily falls around a long weekend here in New Zealand. It’s the best. It’s been so great having this break my entire life.
This year I decided to escape and do a solo trip to Sydney. It’s an awesome city. Vibrant, interesting and diverse. Definitely worth repeat visits!
I’ve captured a lot of the trip in this video - please Like and Subscribe!
Pubs and Bars!!
Yes - I visited a few of these…
Fortune of War - Sydney’s Oldest Pub - in The Rocks. You just have to!
The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre - located in Marrickville, this is history. Great vibe. Great pub experience. Worth the commute!
4 Pines Brewing - based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. A fun day trip. Sydney Harbour ferry ride, beers, and around the corner you can find some of the best fish and chips you’ll taste!
Shopping
I have no choice. If there’s an IKEA in town I must visit it. I don’t usually buy anything much but I love the retail experience. They’ve got it down to a beautiful fine art.
A glorious refined old lady of retail. Amazing shops line the walls across many levels. It’s just a must-do.
I’ve been a fan of this jewellery maker for years. I adore my ‘watch mechanism’ cufflinks, and I’ve been obsessing about a ring. Jewellery is less permanent than tattoos so probably a good mid-life crisis choice.
When you’ve found clothes that just work, you have to purchase and repurchase. I do hope they come to New Zealand at some point. Love this brand.
Always great. Hawker stalls, and now laneways of food! Really fun to visit.
Hunter Valley Wine and Cheese Tour
This was a really great experience. Quality service from the team. It’s always interesting sitting in a bus with strangers. The best thing about a wine tour is that they’re not strangers for too long! A great time had and I do recommend you go on a tour with them.
This amazing creative event ran from late May to mid-June 2025. It really elevates your Sydney experience. I loved it. Wandering around the CBD, experiencing the art and the lights and the music… Fabulous and definitely recommended.
Culture
Museum of Contemporary Art - Amazing. Loved it. Check out the video above!
Australian Museum - I learned a lot!
Sea Life Aquarium - This was really fun. I’m pleased I visited.
The Rocks - Amazing part of Sydney. You need to explore these streets.
Sydney Fish Market - I’m a fan of fish markets. I love this one - they’re moving to a new site in January. Can’t wait to visit again - I do hope that they’ve managed to retain its vibe and culture.
