A few hours in Devonport
Last weekend was sunny so I took the opportunity to revisit Devonport. A suburb North of the CBD, easily accessible by ferry. Less accessible by car although you can. It’s just that Devonport is at the end of the largest culdesac in the world, and the traffic can snarl up terribly!
Watch the video (and please like and subscribe!) for a bit of a visual of the trip and what the suburb has to offer.
Devonport is a destination. Historically it is home to the NZ Navy so you will get to see pretty much our entire naval capacity in dock. It’s not that large to be honest, but it is highly effective and serves our region well.
It’s a quirky suburb. Lot’s of arts and crafts - galleries, stores and Op Shops abound so it’s a great place to go hunt for that slightly unusual but excellent gift. If you have a stationery lover in your life, FitzgeraldTaylor is for you. best stationer in Auckland.
A special mention of two other stores that I love - Mixt and Cosi Fan Tutte. Do visit them and support them.
Devonport has plenty of eating options - many different cuisines are represented. There are some great bars and pubs to enjoy too. Fair to say, there’s something for everybody.
I enjoyed taking time to get to the top of Mount Victoria. An easy walk (could be steep for some) but the views are spectacular. North Head is another feature - historic tunnels and gun emplacements are free to explore.
It is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the CBD. It’s easy to kill a few hours in a worthwhile way.
