Of My Birthday
*sigh*Today, June 5th, is my 42nd birthday. I’m not really dealing with it as well as I should as I am not fond of getting older. However, focusing on the positive, I spend a lot of time with people younger than me - enthusiastic, driven, determined people. These are attitudes I admire. And these people are ensuring I don't age mentally. I am grateful for them.A brief post is required to mark this occasion.Mulling over this landmark I have realised that there are things associated with 42 that I quite like. Here's a short list:42 Below. It makes the pain go away (:p).
Douglas Adams. He wrote Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. In which 42 is actually the answer. RIP Mr Adams.
Level 42. Mark King is my primary influence for playing bass and performance. He’s an amazing player. Check out this clip. And yes - that KingBass is an artwork. One day it will be mine. Oh yes.
Fox Mulder lived in Apartment 42 - X-Files. Looooove the X-Files.
Using the encoding A=1, B=2, C=3, etc., the sum of the codes of the letters in the words "BIG BANG" is 42. Which makes me think of the Big Bang Theory. Which is awesome!
There are lots of other occurrences of 42. I’ll leave you to discover them.Oooh - thinking about things I like makes me happy. I should do this more often.For amusement, this is what my kids gave me. It's a Lego Star Wars kit. My son was absolutely convinced that this is what I desired above all else. He was, of course, somewhat disappointed that I wanted to assemble it. I suspect ulterior motives.
The simple fact is I am actually happy. I like my life. I have health. I have joy. Life is good! The last twelve months have brought me new experiences, new lessons (some hard but good things taken from all), new people. I am spectacularly blessed with the amazing people that have arrived into my life. This was shown Friday night when many came out for surprise drinks for me. I was a little overwhelmed.Cheers to the next year! Bring it on.- Simon
