Of a Road Trip - Part Seven

Wellington was awesome. After arriving on Friday, I wandered around the city a little. I had to make sure I had a Mojo coffee as the last time I was here I indulged in a coffee from McDonalds (it was brown, wet and hot - thats about as close as it got) and was roundly abused for doing so.I stayed the night with an old friend I hadn’t seen for over a year. It was really great catching up with him and seeing how his life has moved forward since leaving Auckland. The following morning I took croissants around to another Auckland friend who has recently moved to Wellington. Again, fantastic to see how happy she is with her life progress.Clearly there is something pretty cool about Wellington...I then headed into town for a look-see. The weather was glorious. Here’s a wee collection of Wellington photos. One thing I did feel though, is that whilst I enjoyed spending time checking Wellington out, is that the experience would have been so much better if I was doing it with a lover. It’s that kind of city.I then caught up with my biological half-brother. I first met him about six years ago, and  we’ve only had three previous chats - over coffee or a short visit. It was really great connecting properly. He also offered me a bed for the night which I accepted. We talked for hours. There is so much commonality between us. I love this whole nature/nurture idea. His partner was a little disturbed at some of the similarities between us.Sunday I headed North.I decided to return to Palmerston North and visited my adoptive brother and family. (I’d missed them on my drive South originally). A tour of their house, a nice chat and lunch. It was good to catch up, but it was also very clear that where I am in life isn’t really compatible with their worldview or understood by them. I had to be fairly guarded which isn’t really a natural position for me these days. After lunch I said goodbye to my old hometown and headed to Taupo. Time to relax. - Simon
