Of Athletics
One thing I am incredibly grateful for is that I still am able to maintain a good connection with my kids and I am able to be an active part of their activities and successes. It is so important that I keep them an absolute priority in my life.Last week Master 8 decided to try Athletics. Pretty much up until now, his exposure to Track and Field events has been limited to 60m, 100m, Sack Races, Egg and Spoon Races and the Standing Jump. So there was a little trepidation going to the local Athletics Club to join in with the other kids and do things that he had no idea about. It was such fun. I got to be parental and watch him while his mother took Miss 5 over to the running track to try her out with sprinting.I was impressed with the enthusiasm of the club organisers. Lots of sports-mums and sports-dad helping with measuring and sweeping etc.Anyway, on to being a proud dad and blogging for posterity!Waiting for instructions...
First EVER Long Jump. He did great! Watched the others, figured out what to do.
First EVER Shot Put!
First EVER High Jump!
And then two 100m races back to back. As you can see he was a tad exhausted by this stage!
I am so pleased with how he did. He enjoyed himself as well so will be returning.Oh yes... how did Miss 5 go with her race? Well, about three-quarters of the way through she realised she was coming last. Then her hat blew off. Then she stopped to retrieve it. Then she had a wee tantrum which involved biting her mother. So cute!!
We’re thinking sticking with Gym for her.- Simon.
