Of Chick Flicks

I love movies.I have an extensive collection of DVDs which I watch and re-watch. However, it has been pointed out to me that there is a distinct lack of chick-flicks available to watch with... people... who may choose to come visit. Surely its OK to select from options with lots of car chases, explosions, mayhem and laughter?Apparently not.Given that James Bond, whilst debonair and dangerous, has a certain amount of appeal to the female audience, I’ve been reliably informed that movies of that franchise are not really going to satisy the romantic and emotional needs of those I may be trying to impress. I therefore need to start building up a collection of more female-friendly movies.Now to me chick flicks do create some problems. The formula of “girl (with socially inept comedic flaws) meets boy with handsome jawline and in-depth emotional connection, then he or she screws up followed by emotional music and tearful scene leading to a glorious reunion and a very happy ending” means women are trained to expect certain things from their ‘leading men’ which are not easily replicated in reality. Of course there is the plus side that is if you’re currently having relationship hassles and your boss is being mean to you, it is likely that you’re in the ‘screw up’ phase of your life, which means the ‘glorious reunion and happy ending’ must be close! So, fair to say, not really my type of movie...Here’s the problem.I have managed to overcome my fear of buying my own underwear. This was the major accomplishment of 2007. Those middle-aged Farmers clerks with their smug judgmental glances when I took my selections to the counter... *shudder*But I am very concerned that I will be putting my Man Card retention in jeopardy if I go to the counter of JB-Hifi (aka Man Disneyland) with a selection from the list of ’50 Greatest Chick Flicks of all Time’ (and yes, I have researched extensively).I think I need help.Let me know which movies are deemed ok to be classed as a chick-flick or romantic comedy, and are able to be purchased by a man without loss of man-credibility. This would be invaluable information.Thanks so much for your assistance in this!- Simon.
