Of Resolutions
I’ve always been a little resistant to setting resolutions in place because of a New Year. But in the spirit of the practice, I have put some thought into what I’d like to achieve this year.I could focus on setting financial goals or travel goals or personal development goals and share those, but my reality is that I achieve those sorts of things pretty easily with minimal effort. They’re there, but they are kind of boring.I’ve already set myself on a healthier path in terms of food and exercise so no need to evolve that. I have absolutely no inclination to run a half-marathon or bungy-jump. Or to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I don't feel any need to address my mortality! So what then.In 2011 I intend to live more. I intend to take more risks both physically and emotionally. I intend to be more open. I intend to drop the guards that I’ve kept in place through a fairly torrid 2010.I want to smoke cigars.I want to savour more fine wine and spirits. I want to explore cocktails.I want to see more live acts and I want to get back in to making music.I want to push myself physically in ways that 41yr olds probably shouldn’t.I want to love. And I want to let love in.I expect another year of mistakes, errors and heartaches. But I also expect another year of valuable lessons learned and exhilirating and joyful experiences. I expect to meet more new people and to grow with the people who have arrived into my world these last few months. So what for you? What are you planning to do with 2011 and the days you have before you? Come on. Share. And if I am able to help you achieve those goals, I will. Here’s to the New Year.- Simon.
