Of a Father and Son Day
Following up on the day I spent with my daughter last week (and yes, I do sort of miss my black nails), yesterday was the day I took off work to spend with my 8yr old son.It is clear that I really need to spend more time with him doing ‘manly’ things and challenging him physically and mentally. And just being blokes together. And shooting the breeze.I picked him up and we went out to Woodhill Forest (West of Auckland) to spend a few hours at Tree Adventures. Neither of us had been there before so we didn’t know quite what to expect.
It is awesome!
I just loved seeing how attentive he was to the Instructor and how quickly he got the processes. I loved seeing how confident he was - “I’m just confident”. I loved seeing him be patient when confronted by really slow, really scared people that were holding him up. I loved the fact that he was trash-talking me “Dad, you might find this difficult". I have to say that no, I didn't find it difficult because I have skills and I'm awesome. Just so you know.

He had the best time (and so did I).After finishing up the four courses (with some repeating of challenges because they were cool) we headed in to St. Lukes Shopping Mall. The main purpose was to get Master 8 to think of and buy a gift for his sister. We did succeed but had to pause for a lengthy time in EB Games so he could look at every DS game on the shelf and then to McDonalds. I’m not sure when grace and manners arrives...
The day finished up with him challenging me to a game of ModNation Racers back at my apartment without the distraction of his sister. All up it was a fantastic day. We had such a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to spending more days with him (and with his sister) in the coming months.- Simon.
